Cape Cod, is an almost-island on the east coast of the United States, in Massachusetts. Mariotti places his design in 1976, when many Americans come to spend the summer by the sea. The traditional Cape Cod style houses, of fishermen and whalers, alternate with lighthouses, all along the coasts. For Mariotti, a mysterious traveler stops there in a Ford Country Squire, binoculars on the nose, scanning the ocean horizon. Out of season many seals come to bask on the sandbanks. It was at Cape Cod that the May Flower, the first settler ship to leave England, touched American soil for the first time on November 11, 1620.
