Designed for Swedish glassworks Kosta Boda by Sweden's most internationally celebrated glass artist Bertil Vallien, Drifter is the latest work in a series of boat-themed sculptures to come from the artist. In an expression of simplicity and space, the piece involves a copper-coloured figure floating within the solid glass boat in which there is no embellishment other than a simple black and white spiral, a symbolic feature to which Vallien frequently turns. Drifter is hand-signed "Artist Collection 2020". This free-standing glass sculpture has a base that allowing it to stand firmly without additional support. "I love to work with a theme. Glass offers possibilities that no other material can. It’s like the outpouring from a volcano where the glowing mass is rapidly transformed into ice.
