Originating from Indonesia, the petrified wood dates back approximately 6 million years. Petrified wood is the result of a tree that has completely turned to stone through the process of permineralization. All organic materials (i.e., the wood) have been replaced by minerals (mainly a silicate, such as quartz), while still retaining the original tissue structure of the stem. Therefore, petrified wood is a three-dimensional representation of the original organic material. Since petrified wood is not a homogeneous material, it can contain cracks and natural holes. These holes are filled with transparent or colored resin.
