The Yggdrasil, or tree of life, has its origins in Norse mythology where the giant branches of a sacred giant ash tree stretch up to the heavens while its roots reach the underworld below. Cast crystal sculpture, hand-painted and sandblasted, symbolic of the passage of life, makes a perfect gift to a new baby or a wedding. Founded in 1890 in the town of maleras Sweden, Mats Johansson's Maleras is the largest privately owned glassworks in Sweden. Using a combination of finely honed production techniques, an exclusive crystal recipe and a team of five talented designers, maleras have drawn from Swedish glassmaking traditions and perfected their art with beautiful results of the highest quality.
